Happy Halloween!

Sunday, October 29, 2006

So, not only does it turn out that the Halloween party last night was across town (I will kill Brent for taking 1604), it was a family barbeque. Me (devil lawyer) , Analiza (gothic fairie), and Stepho (school girl) were dressed a little too sexy for the occasion. We'll dress up again for pictures sometime.

*sigh* At least I can make pretty decent desserts.

Have you seen that Journey Diamond commecial (click "watch 'Dandelions' ") lately? For those who like the song playing in the background as much as I do, it's Dusty Springfield's "What Are You Doing the Rest of Your Life?" from the Dusty in London album.

(I listened to every rendition of that song to try and find it. Barbara Streisand, Stacey Kent, Fantasia Barrino, Peggy Lee, Sarah Vaughn -- none of them was the voice in the commercial, so I finally had to Google "diamond commercial song". Dur.)

Musings

Right as my head hits the pillow at night, I pose the most ludicrous queries to myself. I usually exhaust the riddle until I fall asleep, but tonight, I finally had an answer.

I don't know how to describe the case in which I store my glasses. What I usually mumble in haste is "glasses case". There's too many S's, and it makes me sound stupid. I can't just say "glass case" because a glass, technically, would be a container you drink out of. I was about to fall asleep in defeat when my mouth moved of its own accord.

"... spectacle receptacle"

Good night.

Brill Fight Song
as sung in kindergarten

Oh we are the Brill Broncos you've heard all about,
We never miss a day of school, so proud we want to shout!
You'll know us by our happy faces and our Gold and Blue,
Oh we're the Brill Broncos, so proud to be one too!
Oh as we go marching and the band begins to P-L-A-Y
You can can hear the people shouting:
BRONCOS BRONCOS BE AT SCHOOL
BRONCOS BRONCOS BE AT SCHOOL
YAAAY!

(Clapping and "YAAAY!" from other classes)

(Thaaaaaank yoooou)

(You're weeeeelcooooome)

It's been such a long time since I've sung that ... I caught myself humming it freshman year at UTSA, but I couldn't remember all the words (as I didn't speak English in kindergarten.) I contacted administration at Brill through the website, then to Mrs. Holmgreen, who kindly sent me the lyrics.

Apparently, they'd stopped singing that a while ago, but started it back up when I reminded them of it. I feel like I've actually accomplished something worthwhile.

When I hum that song I can still smell those strawberry-scented stamp pads.

Wot, Wot?

I just got done downloading and cataloging The Top 100 Masterpieces of Classical Music (1685-1928). It's a lovely collection of songs everyone should appreciate.

I love Liszt's Liebesträume (No. 3) I haven't cried listening to music in a while.

Here's to you, Mr. N (and Shun)

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you a photo. A very old photo. I believe my father took this on one of his business trips to Japan. Mr. N is a close family friend of our family, and we still keep in contact with him. He was in country/state/town very often back back in those days, but he hasn't visited since then ... WHYYYYY, MR. N? WHY HAVE YOU LEFT US?? DO YOU NOT LOVE US ANY MORE?! (Yeah. I know you're reading.)

I know those with sharp eyes out there have already spotted Shun in this photo. For those who haven't:

Close-up:

That's Shun's profile looking screen right. You see, Shun? We haven't forgotten you (yet).

Well, now that We've spent an aweful lot of time on Shun, here's some very recent photos of Mr. N on his trip to Beijing where he ... enjoyed(?) a form of massage.

He also enjoyed the side-effect of being able to look like a mutant ladybug for a little while, but as for whether the massage felt good or not, we may never know.

So, here's to you, you silly Mutant Ladybug (and Shun). Cheers!

I was just now reminded that a certain bastard threw pinecones at me back in fifth grade.

And he got in trouble for it. *glee*
